Questions we get asked

What is the difference between copper bonded and copper plated?

In a bonded rod the copper is molecularly bonded to the steel core, so it stays put in the ground. Plated rods carry a thin electroplated layer that can peel away within a few years, after which earth resistance climbs and the pit has to be dug up again.

Which coating thickness do I need?

25 to 30 micron suits normal soil and cost-sensitive work. 100 micron is the usual specification for commercial and industrial installations. 250 micron is used where soil is aggressive or the design life is long. Other thicknesses are produced to requirement.

Can rods be joined to go deeper?

Yes. Our rods are threaded for couplers, so additional lengths can be driven without cutting or welding on site. This is the normal approach where resistivity stays high in the upper soil layers.
